One day workshop on SCILAB For Teachers (open source software) was conducted successfully by Faculty of Engineering & Technology in Collaboration with IIT Bombay at Mewar University.
This workshop was part of initiative by IIT Bombay to promote free/libre Open source Software (FLOSS) in institutions.44 Participants from various institutions of various streams Engineering, Sciences, Statistics, Psychologyetc were given hands on session on SCILAB using spoken tutorial videos developed by IIT Bombay.
Prof. KannanMoudgalaya, Principal Investigator, TLC (ICT), Spoken Tutorial and FOSSEE projects, IIT Bombay with FOSSEE Team, IIT Bombay conducted this workshop through A-View video conferencing software.
“SCILAB is an open source free software offering alternate to costly MATLAB tool. Scilab implements the user-friendly language, similar to the one used in the popular software Matlab. But unlike Matlab, Scilab can be freely downloaded, freely copied, freely modified and also freely distributed. Scilab comes with a graphical programming interface Xcos, which is similar to Simulink. A good knowledge of Scilab will help improve the employment potential of your students”, said Prof Kannan during live interaction in inaugural session.
Workshop coordinator Mr S Arif Ali, Assistant Professor in ECE Dept. (Mewar University)previously trained by IIT Bombay on SCILAB, conducted 4 hours of practical sessions and solved the doubts of participants and motivated the teachers to promote SCILAB usage in their laboratories.
On this occasion Dean Engineering Dr(Prof.) TanveerQazi and Remote Centre Co-ordinator Mr AnkitNavlakha was also present.
