Mewar University’s Supply Chain Management conference gets global response

Mewar University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted the International Conference on Supply Chain Management 2014(ICSCM 2014) from 14th to 15th March 2014. The two-day international conference was meant to provide insights into how supply chain research needs to be transformed into demand-driven value networks.

The proceeding of the conference is going to provide insights to supply chain professionals on how to design, build and execute a demand-driven value network that maximizes productivity, minimizes risk and enables innovation. The papers will be published in the international Journal of Industrial Engineering by Transtellar Publication with an Impact factor of 4.3857.

This Supply Chain Management Conference discussed supply chain management techniques to direct and coordinate staff in every aspect of purchasing operations. Participants discussed new supply chain management approaches, the latest information on Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and Resource Requirements Planning, and much more. The main objective was to help participants gain insights into how to use effectively supply chain management to improve profitability and marketing potential.

Supply chain management has become enormously significant in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The term “supply chain” implies the entire network of companies working together to design, produce, deliver and service a range of products. Whereas many companies focus on manufacturing and quality improvements within their organization, the more efficient companies extend their scope beyond their own organization to include the complete supply chain.

The interactive sessions covered the key elements of supply chain management and discussed the plank for developing a strong supply chain management function that can augment profits and marketing potential.

This conference had over 150 applicants from countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, UAE and Oman, both from industry and academia. The best 25 papers from around the globe were invited for presentation. There were also a large number of delegates who came to attend the conference from Multinational companies in the Middle East such as the Sohar Industrial Port Corporation LTD, Majan Electric Company and many more from Oman.

This gathering had speakers and guests from India and abroad, namely, Dr. Rakesh Belwal (Associate Professor University of Queensland Australia), Dr. Richar Rutter (Sohar University , Oman), Ms. Helen  Sayers (Manager Oman LifeSkills Training Services & Trainer at PDO Oman) also Dr. Sanjeev Mishra and Dr. A K Chaturvedi (MNIT Jaipur).

The chief patron of the conference Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya said, “Supply Chain management is not just for the industry but for each and every aspect of human life, leading to a collaborative existence. Our human body is the biggest example of supply chain management as when one of its components/organs gets an unbalanced supply, the whole system starts collapsing. Hence, knowledge of supply chain management is essential for understanding all aspects of human life.”

Participants dwelt upon the fundamental aspects of supply chain management, including basic resource planning systems, the interrelationships between purchasing, vendor selection, sources of supply, and the role of technology.
